For the second year in row, Cook County homeowners are poised to get more time to pay their property taxes without penalty due to the pandemic.
The current due date for the second installment of property tax payments is Aug. 2, but Nicholas Mathiowdis, a spokesman for Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, told Crain’s that the date is likely to be pushed back to Sept. 1.
“Nothing is set in stone yet, but that date [Sept. 1] is likely. We should know the final due date sometime in July.” he said. “This has been a difficult year for everyone, and (last year) taxpayers were allowed to pay until Oct. 1 without penalties or interest and will be afforded the same this year.”
